Many have difficulty achieving a perfectly flat stomach through diet or exercise alone. Board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Mohit Sood can give you a tummy tuck that makes your stomach area look more attractive.
What is a tummy tuck?
Commonly referred to as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck gets rid of excess fat and skin from the stomach area, giving it a thinner appearance. This procedure can also help restore stomach muscles that have weakened over the years.
Benefits of a Tummy Tuck
Individuals who have lost a great deal of weight most frequently elect tummy tucks. They are unable to get rid of the leftover skin on their stomachs and want to look and feel better. A study conducted by Swiss scientists concluded that bariatric patients who chose tummy tucks had an easier time keeping their weight off. Other benefits of a tummy tuck include:
- Boosts self-confidence.
- Can be performed safely with other surgical procedures.
- Gives the abdomen a toned appearance.
How Is a Tummy Tuck Performed?
A tummy tuck is normally performed in our office on an outpatient basis. However, if you have other surgical procedures scheduled at the same time, you may be required to stay overnight in the hospital.
If you decide to have the procedure in our office, we will likely give you local anesthesia. If you choose a hospital setting, however, general anesthesia will be administered. Once the anesthesia starts working, Dr. Sood will create a horizontal incision under your belly button. He will then lift the skin to get near the abdominal muscles that require repair.
Dr. Sood will pull skin from the upper stomach area and trim it before he sews it back together. Once everything is sewn together, he will put gauze and other bandages on the wound.
