Sood Center > Med Spa in Linwood, Haddonfield, and Cherry Hill, NJ > Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Over the past few years, cell therapy – in the form of growth factors, cell multiplication, and stem cells – have been the hottest area of potential innovation in many areas of medicine. Facial/skin enhancement is no exception, and we are at the forefront of developing this application at Sood Center in Linwood, NJ and Haddonfield, NJ.

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Blood, in addition to red and white blood cells, contains platelets, rich in growth factors and are some of the most potent healers of the body. Growth factors promote healing by restoring normal architecture and strength of the tissue. In a PRP injection, our patient’s own blood is processed at high speeds using our state of the art Harvest Prep system, resulting in higher concentrations of platelets with growth and healing factors. The special platelet rich treatment is then used in several applications including but not limited to promoting healing, increasing local blood flow, and improving fat grafting results while enhancing skin integrity.

Is PRP new?

No, the technology has been used for years in surgical applications and wound care, initially as a healing adjunct to open heart surgery. The use of PRP for the scalp and facial rejuvenation is fairly new and evolving into a promising treatment. It is generally accepted that there is a significant response rate to PRP of approximately 70-80% in certain regions of the body, although this data mainly involves multiple studies with small population groups.

While it is still too early to tell just how effective it is for all patients, there is a good likelihood that in time PRP will become part of the standard of care.

Benefits of PRP treatment

  • Minimally-invasive, non-surgical method
  • All natural treatments
  • Minimal side effects or downtime
  • Little risk involved
  • Less expensive than surgery
  • Quick procedure

How is PRP Treatment Performed?

In PRP treatment, the patient’s own platelets are used to conduct therapies. Blood is drawn and processed to extract the patient’s platelet-rich plasma, which is then used in a variety of applications.

PRP for Facial Rejuvenation

Platelet-rich therapies represent a promising new minimally invasive tool in facial enhancement. The use of PRP can enhance results seen from advanced aesthetic procedures such as microneedling, laser treatments, and fat grafting procedures. The goals for PRP treatment that have been observed are an improvement in the overall appearance, reduction of wrinkles, improved skin tonicity, and even pigmentation.

PRP can also be directly injected into the face (PRP facial). The benefits observed with this treatment include:

  • Smoothing out facial wrinkles
  • Improving blood flow to the skin
  • Stimulating collagen production
  • Thickening the skin
  • Rejuvenating the complexion
  • Decreasing skin folds
  • Improving the clarity of skin
  • Improving scars
  • Skin may be smoother and tighter
  • The color of the skin may be enhanced
  • Sagging skin is treated
  • The amount injected is equivalent to 4 syringes full of Juvederm®, which would cost much more
  • More affordable than surgery
  • Can be used in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation
