The face is the first place to show noticeable signs of aging, which is why facelifts continue to rise in popularity. Well-known board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Mohit Sood, offers facelifts to all his Hamilton Township patients to help them regain a more youthful and fresh look.
What is a Facelift?
A facelift is a procedure designed to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines and tighten any sagging skin on the neck and face. It can correct many visible signs of aging in the neck and face area, including pesky laugh lines, creases underneath the eyes and the beginning formation of jowls. A facelift isn’t meant to tighten every area of the face and neck, which is why it’s occasionally performed along with a brow lift or eyelid surgery.
Benefits of a Facelift
People often decide to have a facelift because they want a more youthful look. A facelift will slow down the aging process and make a person look more youthful to some extent, as the skin will have a tighter base. There have been advancements in technology that now makes it possible for a doctor to perform a facelift with endoscopic cameras or lasers, which will often enhance the results and speed up the recovery time.
How is a Facelift Performed?
This procedure can be performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on the type of technique being used and the excess skin that needs to be removed. With a traditional facelift, an incision will be made starting in front of each ear and reaching upwards to the back of the ear and into the hairline. The excess skin is taken off, and the remaining skin is pulled tight and secured with stitches.
A laser procedure requires a one-inch incision to be made underneath the chin. The excess skin is then pulled downwards and tightened and secured like a traditional facelift. An endoscopic procedure entails the making of several incisions made in the scalp, mouth, above the ears, and under the eyelids. A small camera is put inside each incision so that the fat, muscle and tissue can be divided and lifted from the bone to present a more youthful and taut appearance.
