Women who are dissatisfied with the size or overall appearance of their breasts have the option of considering breast augmentation. Dr. Mohit Sood, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon of Sood Center.
What Is a Breast Augmentation?
For breast augmentation, the surgeon places implants in the breasts to increase their size and volume. The process generally takes between one and two hours, followed by a recovery period of up to two hours. Depending on individual circumstances, the procedure will be performed on an outpatient basis or may require an overnight stay in the hospital.
Benefits of Breast Augmentation
The potential benefits of a breast augmentation, also called breast enlargement, include:
- The increased fullness of breasts that have lost size through pregnancy, weight loss or aging.
- Enhanced self-esteem and confidence.
- A more uniform appearance for women with uneven breasts or sagging, which often results in better clothing fit and a more attractive silhouette.
- Immediate results.
How Is a Breast Augmentation Performed?
Because this is a major procedure, the surgeon performs it in a hospital under general anesthesia. Dr. Sood makes an incision in each breast for inserting the implants. The incision location depends on your type of implant and how much breast tissue you have.
Through the incision site, Dr. Sood makes pockets for the implants. These pockets will be submuscular (underneath the pectoral muscle) or submammary (behind the breast tissue and on top of the pectoral muscle). Again, the implant location depends on the type of implant used.
After the implant is in place, Dr. Sood uses layered sutures to close the breast tissue. To complete the procedure, he sutures shut the outer skin layer or closes it with surgical tape.
Dr. Sood’s skill and many years of experience have created satisfying breast augmentation results for many women.
